REASON

manifesto

The internet got quiet. Not empty, just quiet. The kind of quiet that happens when everything gets optimized, branded, and measured into the same shape. Algorithms reward consistency, and consistency rewards sameness.

reason.direct is a place to create wildly in an ever-expanding void. It's a joint workspace for active and bizarre projects: digital art, systems that don't make sense yet, and whatever else turns up. No showroom, no polish for show. Things get made here in the open, half-built, and you can watch them work, or break.

the premise

Most creative output is made to be consumed, for the scroll, the share, the save. We're more interested in work that means something, even if only to ourselves. Nothing here is padding. If it's on the page, it's real, and if it's broken, the log says so. Different projects get different rules and different looks.

the format

Digital art that lives on the web and doesn't apologize for it. Systems, meaning tools, games and experiments, that might be useful or useless and are honest about which. The most useful one so far is feed.reason.direct, a free news page that puts public headlines in one place and links straight to the publishers, with nothing tracked and its sources in the open. Longer writing, numbered and sent by email, when there's something worth saying. Physical things, someday, if there's one worth making.

what we don't do

These are checkable, not slogans.

  • We don't do shit for no reason.
  • No analytics or tracking, on the site or in email.
  • No accounts. There's nothing to sign up for.
  • The log is append-only. A mistake gets a correction, not a quiet edit.
